Top in Dance for Star Maker Season
The Star Maker School of the Performing Arts of both Flemington and Clinton announce their top competitive dancers for 2010, their 35th anniversary season. The eighty-member team of youth performers, ages 6-18, competes and showcases throughout the tri-state area as well as attends the National finals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina each year. The Showstopper American Dance Championship national contest, directed by Debbie and Dave Roberts of Murrell’s Inlet, draws competitors from throughout the US and Canada. The Star Maker School has participated in the event for more than thirty seasons.
Top dance achievement for this season goes to Kevin Csolak, 14 of Raritan Township. Kevin finished the year capturing two National Championship Titles and two coveted Double Platinum ratings. Finishing in the top three in the nation and stealing the Teen National HipHop title, Csolak danced an original piece of music entitled ‘Leave Em Alone’ with choreography by Ivan Koumaev of Los Angelos, CA. His National Title Tap routine was danced to Michael Buble’s ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and was choreographed by Jerri Brown of Phillipsburg, NJ. The JP Case Middle School eighth grader boasts a banner year with major titles wins throughout the season including NYC ‘Break the Floor’ Top Teen Scholarship Award, New York City Dance Alliance Triple Threat Award, Dance Rave of LA’s Title and Top Overall Teen Dancer, Showstopper Regional Top Overall Teen Soloist, NUVO Breakout Artist of the Year, Ticket To Broadway’s Top Overall Teen Score and On Stage NY’s Top Overall Teen Soloist. As the top solo performer hailing from the state of New Jersey, Csolak was the featured HipHop and Tap dancer in the Opening Production Number for Showstoppers live Webcast, choreography by Hayley Mac of Los Angelos, CA.
Capturing titles and a top spot in the National, age eight and under, Finals Round were in Tap, ‘Man With A Hex’ danced by Cameron Clifford, Taylor Kramer, Brittany Marcantuono, Ashley Rossi, Fiona Spear, Sophia Marra and Kate Amabile with choreography by Jerri Brown of Phillipsburg, NJ. Also topping the group event was the Jazz dance choreographed by Kristen Hoagland of Hamilton, NJ and danced by Taylor Kramer, Brittany Marcantuono, Ashley Rossi, Fiona Spear, Sophia Marra and Kate Amabile performed to ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.’ Both dances received Platinum awards, tied on the scoreboard; ‘Man with a Hex’ performed in the finals Webcast Nationwide.
With a Platinum Achievement and winning the National Title in the competitive division was Tap Duet, ‘Watch What You Eat’ danced by Cameron Clifford and Ashley Rossi and choreographed by Jerri Brown. The routine captured a top spot as third overall in duet/trios for ages eight and under and will be featured on the Showstopper Video sold nationwide this year.
Achieving the coveted double platinum in the Recreational Dance Divisions were Cayla Rae Pavol, age 8, of Ringoes Tap dancing to ‘Ricochet’ and Dylan Marra, age 6 of Raritan Twp. Performing to ‘Reet Petite’ with choreography for both champions by Kurt Csolak of Raritan Twp and Manhattan, NY.
Groups winning their national title division and receiving Platinum awards were; In Tap Dance ‘William Tell Overture’ choreographed by Jerri Brown of Phillipsburg and danced by Amy Allen, Cameron Clifford, Taylor Kramer, Brittany Marcantuono, Emily Molter, Melissa Molter, Katie Pisciotta, Alexandra Raslowsky, Ashley Rossi, Melanie Sailer, Elizabeth Shi, Fiona Spear, Lilly Walsh and Caliana Weaver. Hip Hop performance to ‘What It Is’ and danced by Alexa Carten, Kevin Csolak, Jake Deibert, Teal DePaola, Brian England, Kimberly Fivek, Avery Gebhardt, Megan Gecik, Alyssa Haggan, Megan Healy Maureen Healy, Jessie Masaitis, Brianna Mastrull, Megan McNally, Rebecca Pytell, Chelsea Riccardi, Sarah Riley, Maria Sacchi and Elizabeth Shi, with choreography by Jihan Armaroli of Manhattan, NY. National Title Winners in Solo events with Platinum achievement were; Alexis Galaini in Pointe Solo with choreography by Jerri Brown. Teal DePaola in Baton performing to ‘I Am What I Am’ with choreography by Leesa Csolak of Raritan Twp., Kate Amabile in Ballet with ‘Coppelia’ and choreographed by Jamie Day of Raritan Twp., Lauren Price in recreational Song and dance performing ‘Cornet’ and also in recreational solo, Cayla Rae Pavol captured the Lyrical title dancing to ‘A Gift of a Friend’ and Dylan Marra took the Tap title for six year olds with 'Reet Petite.' The recreational duet in Jazz performed by Dylan Marra and Cayla Rae Pavol also won their division and 2nd place Overall Award.
Title Winners in their categories with Gold Achievement were; Melissa Molter in Song & Dance, Rebecca Pytell in Baton, Shannan Dowling in Baton and Megan McNally in Baton. In the recreational division, Sydney Raslowsky for Jazz Solo and with Cayla Rae Pavol and Dylan Marra for Tap Trio took the title. Also in recreational Trio and achieving Gold as well as the top title were Abby Newsome, Lauren Price and Rachel Pedinoff for both Tap and Musical Theatre.
Platinum Awards were won in Musical Theatre by ‘Take Off With Us,’ in Open category by ‘Bad Girls’ and ‘Rhythm of the Night,’ in Tap by ‘Trendy,’ ‘Good Lovin,’ ‘Feet Can’t Fail Me Now,’ ‘Watch What You Eat’ and ‘You Got It All,’ in Lyrical by ‘Slow Me Down’ and ‘What I’ve Done’ and in Jazz by “Piece of My Heart’ and ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’and in Contemporary by ‘Let It Be’ and in Hip Hop by ‘Money.’

Musical Theatre Gold winner was Chelsea Riccardi and for Baton, Maria Sacchi. Katherine Horner won Gold for performances in the Open and Acrobatic categories. In Hip Hop style Gold was won by Brianna Mastrull, Emily Molter, Alexandra Raslowsky, Lilly Walsh and Caliana Weaver.

At Dance Rave; Top Groups were; ‘Piece of My Heart,’ ‘William Tell Overture,’ ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ and ‘Watch What You Eat-duet.’ Kevin Csolak was title winner and top overall Senior Champion, Cameron Clifford is title winner and overall Junior Champion, Ashley Rossi is Petite Title winner, Cayla Rae Pavol is Overall Petite winner. And Star Maker’s top soloists were; Senior; Kevin Csolak, Junior; Cameron Clifford, Petite; Ashley Rossi, and Recreational Petite; Cayla Rae Pavol.

Star Maker School of the Performing Arts of Flemington and Clinton announces their top champions for the recent dance season. Ashley Rossi, 7, daughter of Tony and Dana Rossi of Raritan Township is the 2009 Showstopper American Dance Championship National Jazz Solo Champion for her age. A member of Star Maker’s Dance Company Competition Team, she attended the National Contest directed by Debbie and Dave Roberts of Murrells Inlet and held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this summer. The Copper Hill School third grader also claimed sixth place overall 8-and-under contestants in every dance genre for her solo performance to ‘Broadway Baby.’
Also topping the solo scores for Star Maker was Hunterdon Central Sophomore, Teal DePaola, 15 also of Raritan Township. DePaola performed a baton and dance piece to Linda Eder’s, ‘I Am What I Am’ to capture the Divisional National Senior Championship for 15-19 year olds as well as the title for age 15. Other members attending the national contest were Kevin Csolak, Alexis Galaini, Christina George, Cassidy Johnson, Megan McNally, Morgan Novak. High scoring group was awarded to ‘Serenity,’ a lyrical routine dedicated to the armed forces with choreography by Jerri Brown, of Hopatcong.
In the qualifier, members captured titles in Edison, NJ last spring for lyrical with ‘Serenity’ as well as ‘How We Do It Over Here’ a Hip Hop piece choreographed by Jihan Armaroli, of Manhattan, NY and danced by Kevin Csolak, Hillary Dadouris, Teal DePaola, Shannan Dowling, Jordan Fusco, Megan Gecik, Christina George, Alyssa Haggan, Cassidy Johnson, Brianna Mastrull, Rebecca Pytell, Chelsea Riccardi, Sarah Riley, Maria Sacchi, and Zoe Tawa. Top soloists were Brianna Mastrull in the Senior division, Hannah Balzer for Teens, Melanie Sailer in Junior, Taylor Kramer in Minis.
Top winners for StarQuest were in the Senior division, ‘How We Do It Over Here’ HipHop by Armaroli, in the Junior division, ‘Remember Me’ a lyrical routine choreographed by Jamie Day of Raritan Township and performed by Katherine Horner, Taylor Kramer, Emily Molter, Katie Povall, Alexandra Raslowsky and Ashley Rossi.
Top solo honors went to Laura Schaufelberger in Seniors, Jordan Fusco for Teens, Emily Molter in Juniors and Taylor Kramer for Minis.
Ticket To Broadway top dancers were; in Senior Solo Christina George; for teens, Jordan Fusco; in Junior, Rachel Allen; and for Minis, Ashley Rossi. Top group awards went to ‘Trendy,’ Teen Tap choreographed by Brown and danced by Hannah Blazer, Kevin Csolak, Kim Fivek, Jordan Fusco, Avery Gebhardt, and Sarah Riley. Also topping off the group event was a Jazz number to ‘These Boots’ danced by the ‘Trendy’ group plus Shannan Dowling, Rachel Allen and Rebecca Pytell as well as ‘Remember Me’ in Juniors. ‘Rock Star,’ choreographed by Day won the Mini Title.
Move Productions finished the season for the dance company, now in their thirty-fifth season under the direction of Leesa Csolak of Raritan Township with ‘Serenity’ taking the Senior category, ‘Another Cha Cha,’ winning the Teen division, and ‘Remember Me with another win in Juniors. Soloists on top were; Laura Schaufelberger for Seniors, Jordan Fusco in Teen, Melanie Sailer for Juniors and Cameron Clifford in the Mini division.

Members of the Entertainers Dance Company of the Star Maker School of the Performing Arts in both Clinton and Flemington took many top honors recently at the Showstopper American Dance Championships held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The contest, directed by Dave and Debbie Roberts of Murrell's Inlet drew competitors age 5-65 from throughout the United States and Canada.
Members from the school taking Over-All Champion awards were; Soloist, Jamie Day, of Flemington for all teacher solos with her self-choreographed baton and Lyrical dance to 'All For Believing' and Kurt Csolak and Amanda Bay, both of Raritan Township for their Tap Duet, dancing to 'I Only Want To Be With You,' a self choreographed comedic number the professional division and Nicole Weaver of Raritan Township in the Senior Photogenic division.
Double Platinum Awards went to 'Football Follies' for Teen Tap Large Group and placing in the top 20 for teen large groups; and 'Devil Went Down' for Junior Tap Small Group. Tap numbers were danced by Hannah Balzer, Kurt Csolak, Kevin Csolak, Teal DePaola, Jordan Fusco, Kimberly Fivek, Megan Gecik, Andrew George, Maureen Healy, Megan Healy, Brianna Mastrull, Morgan Novak, Sarah Riley, Maria Sacchi, Laura Schaufelberger, and Nia Smith.
Soloists capturing top awards and double platinum were Danielle George in lyrical with 'They Weren't There' and Amanda Bay for 'Be Be My Love' in Lyrical.

In the Recreational categories 'Diamonds' choreographed by Day and assisted by Megan Baniewicz of Cranford stole the top awards with first place over-all danced by Taylor Kramer, Ashley Smith, Alexa Carten, Stephanie Delasey, Olivia Murphy, Katie Pisciotta, Sydney Powell, Alexandra Raslowsky, Julia Weisberger, Dillon Spear, Calianna Weaver, Emily Molter, Melissa Molter, Lilly Walsh, Melanie Sailer, Katie Povall, Katherine Horner, Brigette Powell, Amy Allen and Cameron Clifford. The same group danced to 'At The Hop' in tap and took second and their ballet dance placed first in ballet and 3rd over-all.
Winning the prestigious double-platinum for recreational solos was Sydney Powell of Raritan Township with her 'Honky Cat' number choreographed by Kurt Csolak.
Recieving a Gold award and 6th Overall in Tap Trio age 5,6 was Troy Powell, Sydney Raslowsky and Madison Haggan dancing to 'Peppermint Twist.' The threesome also placed 7th Overall with 'Love Me' in Jazz Trio, both choreographed by Jamie Day.
Soloists recieving Platinum in recreational division were Taylor Kramer for Lyrical, Emily Molter for Lyrical, Melissa Molter for Song and Dance, Alexandra Raslowsky for Lyrical, Melanie Sailer for Open, Lilly Walsh in Tap, and Calianna Weaver for Musical Theatre.
Recreational Soloists recieving Gold were; Amy Allen in Jazz, Cameron Clifford for Jazz, Katie Pisciotta fro Character, Troy Powell for Jazz, Melanie Sailer for Jazz, Ashley Smith in Tap, and Katie Povall for Lyrical.
